I’ve been going for long trips on the weekends, so far I’ve done additional training rides of 40 miles ride on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail and 26 miles again on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. During the week I’ve been doing some light errands by bike and practicing on the stationary bikes at the gym. It’s hard to gauge the equivalent riding distance, but I think I am doing roughly 8 mile rides in 30 minutes there.

Also, why did no one warn me about what a spin class was!? I narrowly escaped a premature death signing up for one at the “intermediate” level ☠. I was so naïve. 30 seconds in the instructor said, “alright everyone, let’s STAND UP” I thought bicycling was a SEATED activity?? I’m still unsure what physics is involved in doing push-ups WHILE you pedal, or how 45 minutes can feel so long, but by the end I was so wet you could have wrung me out like a dish towel. But I DID finish it!

I’m hoping my new hybrid tires and my new clip-in shoes can help me hit 50 miles this weekend! That said, I never expected the hardest part of riding to be how sore my butt gets! I guess that just means I need to ride more!

23 days left!

If it sounds like I made an impulse decision… Yup! I have volunteered at Harbor to the Bay as crew before, but never thought I would be able to ride it! I have only ridden a bike a couple times in the past decade, so when I set off from my car this morning both my confidence and my balance were VERY wobbly! 32.5 miles in 3 hours! That puts me in a good spot to prepare for 68 miles in… a month and half!
